IT
At MIK we have a small local IT team, headed by Jon, that can give advice regarding IT. Further IT support is provided by Sykehuspartner (for OUS-related matters) and UiO (for UiO-related matters).
IT support
If you need IT assistance you may contact the small local IT team for general advice.
For matters relating to the OUS and Forskernett networks, you need to contact IT support at Sykehuspartner. Please use "Min Sykehuspartner" in the OUS Intranet when logged into an OUS PC (or virtual OUS dekstop). It is also possible to call 32 23 53 30.
For matters relating to the UiO network, please see the UiO IT service pages where you will find a lot of information. Please also see the information about IT services at the Institute of Clinical Medicine. You may contact UiO IT support if necessary.
Forskernett
The Forskernett network is shutting down and users should now be using the OUS and/or UiO networks instead. The research platform and research portal has been established at OUS / HSØ and may be used for some purposes, while advanced users would want a UiO account, either through an existing affiliation with UiO or through the "ICT in research" agreement.
Email: Email sent to the Forskernett network (adresses ending with "@rr-research.no") are now (as of 16 December 2024) forwarded to the corresponding user account on the OUS network (addresses ending with "@ous-hf.no"). All email you had on Forskernett have been exported to a file in your home directory at the OUS network named like "P:\Fra_MR\PST\username.pst". This file can be opened in Outlook and used as an archive. It can also be transferred to the UiO network and opened in Outlook there. You should ask your contacts to stop using your rr-research.no email address and update all references to this email address.
Printing: The main printer in F497 have been moved to the OUS network and cannot be used for printing from Forskernett anymore.
Storage: Data on Forskernett should be moved away ASAP. Files in your home directory on Forskernett will be exported to a folder in your home directory as OUS, but may not be ready before January 2025.
PCs connected to lab equipment: Lab equipment (e.g. microscopes, flow cytometer, RT-qPCR, and gel doc) with connected PCs that were previously on Forskernett have been disconnected from the network. Local user accounts have been created. Please see instructions on the PCs. Use a USB stick or portable disk to transfer your data elsewhere.
User accounts
All new employees will be provided with a OUS user account. This account must be used to log in to the OUS network, pcs, virtual desktop etc. An email address (@ous-hf.no) will be assocated with this account. This account must be used to read OUS email, access Personalportalen, the OUS intranet, book meeting rooms etc. It can be used for access to the new OUS research portal with associated IT services like storage, computing, file transfer etc.
Most employees will also have a user account at UiO depending on your association with UiO, i.e. UiO employee, student, postdoc, CRESCO-associated scientist, or using the "ICT in research" agreement. Through the UiO account you will have access to UiO email (@uio.no) and other IT services.
Two-factor authentication (2FA)
Both OUS and UiO require two-factor authentication (2FA) when logging into your account. It is strongly recommended to install and use the genuine Microsoft Authenticator app on your mobile for this purpose. It can be found on the Apple App Store and the Google Play Store.
Wireless networks
Please use the "Eduroam" network if you have a UiO account. Remember to add "@uio.no" to your username.
The open "HSO gjest" network may be used for guests.
All employees should have an email account at OUS with an adress similar to "username@ous-hf.no". You need to be logged in to OUS network on a PC or a virtual machine ("ekstern arbeidsflate") to read this email.
Users with an UiO account will have an email address similar to "name@medisin.uio.no" or "name@ous-research.no". This email can be read from any computer or phone. Please see further information about email and calendar at UiO.
We have two main email lists for researchers at MIK:
- mik-sintef AT medisin DOT uio DOT no: information to employees located at SINTEF only
- molekylbio-alle AT rh DOT uio DOT no: information to the entire Section for research, including those at SINTEF
There are also separate list for the individual research groups. These lists are administrated by Helene. Make sure you are a member of the relevant lists.
Storage
There are many different options for data storage on the OUS and UiO networks. The storage hotel at UiO is recommended for shared documents in the research groups. For private documents you may use OneDrive. For other options contact the IT team.
Printing, scanning and copying
On the OUS network
You can print from a computer on the OUS network to the large printer labeled "MR-MIK-F282575" located in room F497. The printer should already be installed and be the default printer on all computers on the OUS network (including virtual machines like "Ekstern arbeidflate"). The printer queue is named "Sikkerprint på SDS-UNIFLOU-06" or something similar. The documents you send to the printer are not actually printed before you collect them at the printer, actually any printer at OUS.
First time setup: To use the printer for the first time, you need to swipe an ID card (SINTEF, OUS or UiO) at the white panel on the left side of the display. The printer will tell you that the ID card is unknown ("ID-kortet er ukjent"). You will need to log in with your OUS username and password. The printer will remember your credentials and the next time you will only have to swipe the same card.
Collecting your printout: After swiping your ID card, click "Secure Print" on the the display and the then "Print All" to print all your jobs in the queue. When finished, swipe your card again or click "Logg ut" in the top right corner.
Scanning: The printer also has a scanning function. Click "Scan og send" in the display. You can scan and send the scanned document as a PDF file to yourself (click "Send til meg selv") or somebody else at the OUS network.
Copying: The machine can function as a copier, and it has a sheet feeder.
On the UiO network
You can print from your UiO computer (PC, Mac or Linux), your mobile or your tablet to the new UiO printer located in room F497. This printer is connected to the new printing system (PaperCut) at UiO.
Printing: When printing, you must send the printout to the printer queue named "HP on pull.uio.no" (This is NOT the same as HP pullprint UiO) on Windows and "pull.uio.no HP" on Macs. On most computers, this printer should be pre-installed. How to print from a UiO computer is described here.
Collecting your printout: You collect the printout by going to the printer (in principle any printer in the new system at UiO) and swiping your ID card on the card reader located on the right side below the display. The first time you use the printer you need to register an ID card; please see the section below regarding first time setup. Click "Print all" to print all documents. When finished, log out by swiping your card or clicking "logg ut". Documents not collected within 48 hours are automatically deleted.
Simple printing: To avoid installing any software or printer drivers, you can print PDFs and some other types of documents directly from the web at print.uio.no with WinPrint when you are connected to the Eduroam Wi-Fi or the cabled network at UiO. At that website you can also look at the printer queue and perform administrative duties.
Print from anywhere: The most flexible solution allowing you to print from any device connected to any network is to install and use Mobility Print. Mobility Print can be installed on your private mobile or tablet or on your private (or any non-UiO) computer (Windows, Mac or Linux).
Scanning: You can also scan using the UiO printer. Swipe your card and click "Scan" on the printer. The scanned documents will be sent to your UiO email address.
Payment: It is indicated in some places that you are supposed to pay for the printouts. This only applies to master students, not employees.
How to install the printer
Windows: If you cannot find it on your Windows PC, see this page for help. Look under "Printing from UiO-managed/UiO-owned Windows" and "Don't have the printer queue for the printing system?". In brief, you need to press the Windows key and R to open the "run" dialogue in Windows. Then enter " \\pull.uio.no\hp" and click OK. The rest should go automatically.
Mac: If you are using a Mac, the printer queue's name is "pull.uio.no HP". On UiO-managed Macs this printer should be installed already. Otherwise, please install MobilityPrint as described here.
Linux: If you are using a Linux computer, see this page (Norwegian only).
First time setup - register your ID card
The first time you print to this printer, you need to register an ID card (SINTEF, OUS, or UiO) by swiping it and logging in on the printer with your UiO account. UiO ID cards are supposed to be registered automatically. At the printer, swipe your card on the card reader located on the right side under the display. The display should then say "Ukjent kort" (Unknown card). Swipe again if doesn't say so. Then enter your UiO username (not the full email address) and your UiO password, and click "Log in". Next time, the printer will recognize your card and display your name when you swipe the card.
