Research awards to the Department of Gastroenterology

During the annual meeting of the Norwegian Gastroenterology Association held in Lillehammer from February 8th to 11th, the Department of Gastroenterology received four research awards. Senior consultant and researcher Håvard Midgard, and physician and PhD fellow Charlotte Bache-Wiig Mathisen, received best abstract rewards for their works "Sustained virologic response and reinfection following HCV treatment among hospitalized people who inject drugs: Follow-up data from the OPPORTUNI-C trial" and "A novel diagnostic serum protein signature for pediatric inflammatory bowel disease."

Charlotte Bache-Wiig Mathisen and Marte Lie Høivik also received the patient association "Mage-tarmforbundet's" research award for their work on proteomics and lipidomics biomarkers in inflammatory bowel disease, and Håvard Midgard received research funds from the Norwegian Gastroenterology Association for the project "Proactive case-finding and early detection of liver disease among hospitalized people with harmful alcohol consumption: The PREDILECTION Trial."

"As head of research at the department, I am very proud that eight excellent abstracts were presented from all sections of the department - including hepatology, inflammatory bowel disease, and advanced endoscopic procedures", says Marte Lie Høivik. The abstracts cover a broad spectrum of results from ongoing large research studies such as IBSEN III and OPPORTUNI-C, as well as equally important results from quality assurance studies based on data from our Gastroenterology Research and Quality Registry. The Department of Gastroenterology has an ambition to be at the forefront of research and, at the same time, is very committed to quality assuring all new treatment methods and treatment algorithms and sharing these experiences with colleagues across the country.
