The Translational Neurodegeneration Group investigates the underlying causes of Alzheimer's disease (AD), Parkinson's disease (PD), and Dementia with Lewy Bodies (DLB), with a particular focus on clearance mechanisms. We employ a diverse array of patient-centric methodologies, utilizing cell lines, patient-derived iPSCs, CRISPR-Cas9, and differentiation into neurons, astrocytes, and microglia. Our techniques include immunohistochemistry, confocal and electron microscopy, western blotting, qPCR, genome-wide association studies, polygenic risk score development, genetic pleiotropy, ELISA and biomarker analysis, cognitive and neurological testing, sleep measurements, mathematical modeling, and advanced MRI technologies. While we primarily focus on patient material, our approach highlights the translational impact of our findings, ensuring they are directly relevant to clinical applications.
