Adverse perinatal outcomes: exploring term and posters pregnancies in Norway
Fellow: Gulim Murzakanova
Post-term pregnancy increases the risk of perinatal mortality and morbidity. Labor induction is an intervention that may reduce risk of adverse pregnancy outcomes in post term pregnancies, but is an intervention that burdens the delivery units by requiring more personnel and health care facilities. Targeting women who will benefit from labor induction and selecting women who could wait for a spontaneous labor onset is a challenge for clinicians worldwide.
This PhD research project aims to explore the risk of perinatal morbidity and mortality in term and post-term pregnancies. Results may help clinicians to better identify fetuses at risk for perinatal morbidity and mortality and determine optimal time for labor induction. Large dataset from the Norwegian Medical Birth Registry and Statistics Norway will be used for this purpose. Also, a clinical study, a quality assurance project at Oslo university Hospital, Ullevål, will be conducted. The study is ethically approved and has a broad collaborative network including experienced researchers and clinicians. Results will be disseminated among academic and clinical communities.
