The Intervention Centre

The Intervention Centre (www.ivs.no) stands as a multiprofessional hub for clinical and experimental research and development within the Technology and Innovation Division at Oslo University Hospital. Collaborating extensively with internal hospital units, as well as external academic and industry partners, IVS is dedicated to shaping the future of healthcare services. The Centre has formalized collaboration with the Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU) in Trondheim, and with four different Faculties at the University of Oslo (UIO), The Medical Faculty, The Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences, The Faculty of Social Sciences, and the Faculty of Law and Oslo Metropolitan University (OsloMet).

The Centre serves as a shared resource, catering to both basic and clinical research groups within and beyond Oslo University Hospital, granting equal access to cutting-edge equipment, infrastructure, and proficient staff crucial for pioneering new methodologies. Operating within a matrix model, the Centre comprises six research groups with key research focuses including:

  • Image-guided interventions and surgery
  • Utilization of robotics and simulation
  • Development of IT solutions for big data processing and artificial intelligence
  • Advancements in telecommunication and sensor technology
  • Innovations in functional, structural and molecular imaging and image processing
  • Navigation systems for interventions and surgeries
  • Conducting scientific industry-sponsored projects to test new medical devices
    • Theranostic medicine

The Intervention Centre’s infrastructure facilitates four primary result dimensions:

  1. Clinical Trials, incorporating clinical outcome endpoints
  2. Patient experience studies 
  3. Health Economic studies 
  4. Organizational implications arising from the adoption of new methodologies
