Karen-Marie Heintz - Employee of the Year 2025, Institute for Cancer Research

Head Engineer Karen-Marie Heintz at the Institute for Cancer Research (ICR) is named the Employee of the Year 2025.

The award was presented on 17 December by Kjetil Taskén on behalf of the ICR leadership team in recognition of Heintz’s exceptional contributions to the institute and its staff.

Karen-Marie Heintz was nominated by the Department of Tumor Biology, the Department of Molecular Cell Biology and the institute’s Chief Administrative Officer – a strong testament to how widely her work is valued across the institute. Nomination letters praised her exemplary representation of the institute and highlighted her central role in the institute’s sustainability certification efforts in 2025.

For nearly 25 years Karen-Marie Heintz has served the ICR in administrative roles, joint laboratory facilities and at the Department of Tumor Biology. Throughout this time, she has been a driving force in building a constructive and safe workplace culture – as safety representative on both departmental and institute level for several years and now continuing the work in her role in the administration. Colleagues describe her as knowledgeable, efficient and deeply committed; someone who fosters work enjoyment and brings out the best in teams.

Karen-Marie Heintz ranks highly on all ICR core values: quality, teamwork, integrity and vision. “Heintz’s contributions benefits all ICR staff, and she is a worthy candidate for the title of Employee of the Year”, says Kari Aalrust Berger, Chief Administrative Officer.
