Leonardo A. Meza-Zepeda Department Head
The Department of Core Facilities runs eight regional core facilities financed by the Southern-Eastern Norway Regional Health Authorities and provides advanced core facility services to regional, national and international users. The Department aims to improve research quality through an optimal choice of technology, ultimately increasing research's scientific competitiveness and impact. The core facilities are immersed within leading research environments at the Institute for Cancer Research (ICR), where we interact with research groups to establish and develop new technologies, methods and workflows. The Department is organised into four units: Advanced Microscopies, Flow Cytometry, Genomics and Bioinformatics, and Preclinical Imaging and Proton Therapy.

Core Facilities
Flow Cytometry Provides conventional and spectral flow cytometry analysis and cell sorting services, in addition to single-cell/imaging mass cytometry.”
Advanced Light Microscopy Provides training and hands-on access to state-of-the-art confocal, fluorescence and super-resolution microscopes, and image analysis systems. Also, users can get access to widefield microscopes dedicated to live-cell imaging, high-content imaging systems, and a slide scanner for brightfield and fluorescence.
Advanced Electron Microscopy Offers ultrastructural characterization of samples with correlative light electron microscopy (CLEM), electron tomography and regular EM of thin sections. Training of users in both specimen preparation and microscopy is provided.
Bioinformatics We provide competence and services covering all aspects of bioinformatics data analysis, from project design to data quality control and processing to generate meaningful biological results. Our primary focus area is high-throughput data analysis of sequencing, microarray and proteomic data, but we also support data management and customised workflows to meet your needs.
Preclinical Proton Therapy A full clinical gantry of a Varian Probeam 360 is dedicated to preclinical research together with large cell and animal labs. The facility is equipped to investigate the efficacy and precision of proton therapy in pre-clinical model systems.
Preclinical imaging We offer advanced in vivo imaging for assessment of treatment response, providing insight for developing personalized treatment strategies! State of the art preclinical imaging equipment is available together with highly competent personnel.
HT Chemical Biology Screening Platform We offer a broad range of services in small molecule-based high throughput screening using our ~75,000 compound collection on various biological and biochemical systems. This is typically the first step in any classic drug development campaign but can also be applied in precision medicine to define tailored therapies or in drug repurposing projects.
Genomics We offer a broad range of services and competence in advanced high-throughput technologies to study genome structure, dynamics and function, from bulk to single-cells and spatial multi-omics. Our technology experts can advise you on experimental design, and the selection of appropriate technology to deliver high-quality data.
