S. Lorenz

The next institute seminar takes place Wednesday 17th of February at 12:00 in the Auditorium in the Research building, IkF, Montebello, with the following speaker:
Susanne Lorenz – Dept. of Tumor Biology

Title of her talk:
“Unscrambling the genomic chaos of osteosarcoma”

Unscrambling the genomic chaos of osteosarcoma

In this study we have combined whole genome and RNA sequencing to extensively investigate the genomic chaos of osteosarcoma and its consequences. Although we find many new chromosome fusions, as indicated by the presence of multiple fusion chromosomes by spectral karyotyping, we also observed hundreds of fusion transcripts not due to gene fusion. This striking phenotype of apparently hyperactive trans splicing appears to be typical for osteosarcomas, and may be related to mechanisms of genome instability. The various findings reported are corroborated by analysis of a panel of patient samples to ensure clinical significance.
