Kristian Berg elected as member of the Norwegian Academy of Science and Letters
Kristian Berg from the Department of Radiation Biology at the Institute for Cancer Research has been elected as a member of the Norwegian Academy of Science and Letters.
Berg is internationally renowned for the development of the drug delivery method Photochemical internalization (PCI) using light to enhance cytosolic delivery of macromolecules and small drugs that are trapped in endosomes and lysosomes.
PCI is currently in two different clinical trials at several hospitals in Europe. One for the treatment of head and neck cancer patients (Phase II) and the second for the treatment of inoperable bile duct cancer (Phase I). In addition, a number of academic groups worldwide are now using the technology to enhance efficiency of nanomedicines, vaccines and gene therapies.
In order to become a member of this exclusive academy, one has to be nominated by 3 other members and elected by the majority of the academy.
