Ceremony on May 27th Oslo University Hospital has awarded 6 excellent articles for the second half-year of 2024

In order to stimulate excellent research and draw attention to the hospital's research activity, Oslo University Hospital rewards outstanding publications twice a year. Six research groups were awarded for their excellent papers published the second half-year of 2024 during a ceremony on May 27th. Each group received NOK 50.000 earmarked for further research, and the prize winners gave short presentations of their main findings.

The winners of this award have contributed new knowledge into the fields of tumor-infiltrating immune cells, AI-assisted prediction of immunotherapy effect, childhood diabetes data from international registries, new digital 3D tools for planning cardiac surgery in children, the relationship between drug use patterns and the long-term course of psychotic disorders, and the effect of medication-assisted rehabilitation on the incidence of overdose deaths after prison release.

"This year's winning articles illustrate in an excellent way that research at OUS contributes to the fact that new technological possibilities can improve clinical practice and that systematic use of quality registries can provide better treatment and reduce unnecessary suffering among patients", says research director Erlend Smeland, who gave out the awards during the ceremony.

The awards for outstanding research articles are distributed twice a year based on more than 2,400 scientific articles published annually by OUS. The division's research committees nominate the articles and an external committee evaluates and finally selects the six worthy winners.

The winning articles must have achieved international impact or have distinguished themselves in other ways. It is also required that the articles are of particularly high quality and communicate important findings.
