TBT-S – Temperament based therapy with support

RASP offers a five-day treatment called Temperament based therapy with support (TBT-S) to adult patients with an eating disorder. TBT-S uses knowledge from neurobiological research to help patients and their support persons (e.g. parent(s), friend, partner) develop tools and strategies to manage anxiety and facilitate recovery. The treatment is delivered in a multi-family format and incorporates a number of evidence based treatment components, including family-based treatment, behavioural treatment contracting, psychoeducation, caretaker coaching, dialectical behavioural therapy tools, and neurobiological treatment tools. Adult TBT-S treatment was developed by Dr. Laura Hill together with clinicians and researchers at the University of California San Diego. TBT-S was brought to Norway by Kristin Stedal, and in 2020 the Norwegian version of TBT-S was implemented at the out-patient unit of the Regional Department for Eating Disorders (RASP).

Dr Stedal and her research colleagues at RASP aim to evaluate the feasibility, acceptability and effect of TBT-S. Self-report questionnaires are administered to patients and supports before and after treatment, and at post-treatment follow-ups.
