Fungal and Bacterial Infections Research Group
The FBI-RG (Fungal and Bacterial Infections Research Group) is an interdisciplinary collaboration between clinical microbiologists, epidemiologists, research scientists, veterinarians and medical doctors addressing topics within diagnostics, treatment, and prevention of bacterial and fungal infections, including antimicrobial resistance and the rational use of antimicrobials. The molecular and the epidemiological understanding of the development of resistance and the spread of resistant microbes in the health service and society and associated burden are major research questions of concern. Modern epidemiological methods and the translation of basic microbiology and molecular biology (NGS) into diagnostics, treatment, and prevention of infectious diseases are applied to address our research questions.
The research group seeks to facilitate translation by involving clinical microbiologists and clinicians at the Department of Microbiology at Oslo University hospital, broad collaboration with other research groups outside Oslo University hospital and infection prevention and control environments. The research group hosts several PhD candidates.
