14:10: "Mulighetene finnes der du søker dem" – Eirik Albert Torheim, Inven2.
Background: Eirik Torheim is a pharmacist by training from the University of Oslo, followed by military service as an academic officer in medical logistics. He earned a PhD in immunology from the Biotechnology Center of Oslo/University of Oslo, focusing on immune regulation and HIV treatment. Eirik has spent a year at the Pasteur Institute in Paris as a postdoctoral researcher, working on developing a therapeutic vaccine for cervical cancer. With short roles at Apokus and the Research Council of Norway, he has spent the last decade as an independent consultant and entrepreneur in life sciences, contributing to multiple start-ups. He recently completed an MBA in San Diego and currently works full-time as a Technology Strategy Manager at Inven2, the TTO unit for the University of Oslo and Oslo University Hospital. In his spare time, Eirik is the founder of Wild Genomics, Inc., a US-based start-up developing precision pest monitoring services in agriculture based on environmental DNA sequencing.
14:30: "The Cancer Registry of Norway – More than just counting cancer cases" – Steffan D. Bos-Haugen, Kreftregisteret.
Background: With a Master’s degree in biopharmacy from Leiden, Netherlands, and a PhD on “Genes and mediators of inflammation and development in Osteoarthritis,” Steffan has worked across wet labs and data science environments. Referring to himself as a "moist scientist"—a unique combination of lab enthusiast and data nerd—he has held positions as a postdoc in both the Netherlands and Oslo, working on multiple sclerosis and breast cancer. After 12 years in temporary positions, Steffan now holds a permanent researcher position at the Cancer Registry of Norway.
14:50: "How to make an academic career – lessons learned" – Marit Inngjerdingen, UiO.
Background: Marit Inngjerdingen is professor in pharmacology at Institute of Clinical medicine, University of Oslo. She graduated with a PhD in immunology in 2001 at the University of Oslo, and did a post doc in USA, followed by multiple post docs and researcher positions until finally securing a permanent position in 2018. She is also founder and CEO of the company Cellmover that is located in ShareLab in the Oslo Science Park.
15:10 – 16:30: Mingling session with pizza and drinks. This is a great opportunity to engage with our speakers and network with others exploring career possibilities beyond academia.
