Truls E. Bjerklund Johansen is professor emeritus of urology at the University of Oslo, Norway and emeritus consultant urologist at the Urology Department, Oslo University Hospital in Norway. He is former chairman of the Urology Department, Aarhus University Hospital in Denmark. He is now consultant urologist at Telemark Hospital Trust in Norway.
He was professor in medicine (urology) and chairman of the Norwegian Institute of Urology at University of Tromsoe, Norway 1993-2001, and served as visiting professor at The Norwegian Cancer Registry and professor in medical science at Telemark University College, Norway until he became ass. professor in urology at the University of Aarhus, Denmark 2007-2012. He is also emeritus associate professor in experimental urological surgery at the Institute of Clinical Medicine, University of Aarhus, Denmark. Bjerklund Johansen has a broad field of interests in urology with urogenital infections and minimally invasive treatment of prostate and renal cancer being his main clinical and research interests.
He has chaired national and international projects related to education, research and organization of health care, and has authored and edited more than 350 articles, book chapters, and books and serves as referee/ consulting editor for many medical journals. He is former Member of ECDC advisory committee on antibiotic resistance.
He holds membership of several urological associations and is honorary member of the Hungarian Association of Urology and the European Section of Infections in Urology (a full section of the European Association of Urology (EAU)). He is fellow of the Royal Society of Medicine, UK and Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons, Eng.
