With increasing conflicts, displacement, and global migration, there is a growing need to advance our understanding of psychological trauma and trauma-related disorders. This is particularly important in the context of migration and global mental health, including within Norway.

Our research group focuses on mental health in vulnerable populations who have been exposed to severe traumatic events. We aim to identify psychological, social, and biological risk factors— including potential biological markers—associated with trauma and trauma-related disorders. Through this work, we seek to contribute to the development of more effective treatment and rehabilitation services for affected populations.

Aims

  • To investigate mental disorders, including PTSD and Complex PTSD (CPTSD), in trauma-exposed and vulnerable populations
  • To identify risk factors for psychiatric disorders following exposure to severe trauma
  • To study mental health of refugees and migrants, both in Norway and internationally
  • To study trauma-exposed clinical populations in order to better understand psychiatric comorbidity and the biological mechanisms, including biomarkers, associated with trauma and traumatic disorders
  • To conduct intervention studies using biopsychosocial models to determine what treatment approaches are most effective for individuals with trauma-related disorders.
