The Center for Eye Research and Innovative Diagnostics (CERID) at Oslo University Hospital and the University of Oslo is a multidisciplinary research hub dedicated to advancing basic and translational medicine, clinical care, and innovative diagnostics in ophthalmology.

Our mission is to transform laboratory discoveries into real-world solutions for patients suffering from eye diseases, focusing on retinal disorders, corneal regeneration, ocular oncology, glaucoma and advanced imaging technologies.

Through cutting-edge research, international collaborations, and partnerships with industry, we aim to redefine the future of eye health and preserve vision for generations to come.

Research Team
Our team brings together clinicians, scientists, engineers, and students from Norway and internationally, each contributing unique expertise. Together, we cover the entire translational pipeline — from cellular mechanisms to bedside innovation.

Research Focus

CERID’s work spans basic science, translational research, and clinical innovation:

  • Retinal Disorders: AMD, diabetic retinopathy, macular surgery.
  • Regenerative Medicine: Stem cells (iPSC, limbal, corneal, RPE), tissue engineering, 3D bioprinting.
  • Corneal & Conjunctival Biology: Cryopreservation, tissue transplantation, antiseptic/goblet cell studies.
  • Advanced Diagnostics: AI-based DR screening, retinal oximetry, intraoperative OCT, VR/AR technologies.
  • Health Economics: Cost-effectiveness in retinal detachment surgery, diabetic retinopathy screening, and surgical innovations.
