Rehabilitation after trauma

Group leader
Group leader Torgeir Hellstrøm
This multidisciplinary research group generates knowledge about the mechanisms and consequences of trauma, patient care, trends and challenges in treatment and rehabilitation including the patients’ healthcare needs. Our main research area includes traumatic brain injuries (TBI), multiple trauma, and aneurysmal subarachnoid hemorrhage (aSAH). For more than 18 years, the group has built strong collaborations across genetics, intensive care medicine, neurosurgery, neuroradiology, neuropsychology, and rehabilitation.
The main aims of the research group are to:
- Develop and implement cost-effective rehabilitation interventions that address trauma- and TBI-related challenges in both the short- and long-term after injury.
- Improve collaboration and knowledge transfer between primary and secondary health care services to ensure seamless rehabilitation pathways for trauma patients.
- Strengthen existing and initiate new national and international research collaborations
