Ingvild Beathe Myrhaugen Tjelmeland
- Senior adviser, PhD student; RN
Mrs Tjelmeland is the leader of the Norwegian Cardiac Arrest Registry at Oslo University Hospital Trust in Norway. For the last thirteen years, she has been working to establish and develop the world´s only mandatory national cardiac arrest registry, covering dispatch, EMS and hospitals.
She is educated as an ICU nurse and has a master's degree in evidence-based practice. She is currently a PhD student at the University in Oslo in cooperation with the University Hospital in Schleswig-Holstein, Germany. She is studying the epidemiology of cardiac arrest and using registry data to increase our knowledge of the treatment and quality of care given to cardiac arrest patients, both outside and in hospital. She has published several articles related to resuscitation science, including epidemiological data from 26 different countries on changes of bystander CPR during the Covid-19 pandemic.
In addition to working as an ICU nurse, she spent 6 months starting a vaccination program and running a health centre in Ethiopia on the border to Somalia. She was involved in the implementation and evaluation of an educational program on new-born resuscitation. Through the work with the Norwegian Cardiac Arrest Registry she became involved in the European Cardiac Arrest Registry (EuReCa) and joined the study management team in 2014. In 2019, she was awarded the Fellowship of the European Resuscitation Council for her work related to resuscitation science.
