Nasjonalt senter for stamcelleforskning ble etablert i 2009 ved Oslo Universitetssykehus-Rikshospitalet gjennom et direktiv fra Helsedepartementet, med finansiering fra Norges Forskningsrådet.
I 2021 initierte Senteret en Fase II med et hovedfokus innen forskning på iPS-cellebaserte in vitro sykdomsmodeller.
