Research group for Forensic psychiatry

Group leader
Group leader: Unn Kristin Haukvik
The Forensic Psychiatry group studies biological, psychological and societal mechanisms underlying the link between severe mental disorders and violent or antisocial behaviour. The aim is to improve prevention, treatment and contribute to legal justice.
The research is broad and interdisciplinary, combining clinical studies, registry data, neuroimaging with novel methods, and analyses of historical and legal documents. Collaborations include national and international experts in neuroscience, psychosis research, criminology, criminal law and philosophy.
The group focuses on developing tools for more targeted treatment, validating assumptions in the criminal insanity discourse, and identifying genetic, neuroanatomical, and environmental factors that contribute to antisocial behaviour and severe mental disorders.
