Why do I need to go into such detail?

Because you do not want to lose the last 0,5 points?

When you have got a score close to funding the competition gets really tough. You need all the help you can get to be moved up on the funding list. If you show any weakness you may be moved down.

The instructions for top scores say:

4 — Very Good. The proposal addresses the criterion very well, but a small number of shortcomings are present.

5 — Excellent. The proposal successfully addresses all relevant aspects of the criterion. Any shortcomings are minor.

The shortcomings that may move you down will most likely be missing details. That is why we chase you to do all the detail work. It is to safeguard you from losing points and help you getting or keeping the last 0,5 points.

Which detail that may move you up or down we do not know. We only know that to be on the safe side you should fill in any possible hole we can think of.

The plusses and minuses may be; gender issues in the project management, missing travel costs and number of travels, not enough budget details (consumables), too little detail in risk plan, hard to read Gantt chart, spelling and grammar errors, poor layout, not enough detail on resources at task level, unclear milestones, any inconsistencies etc etc….
