Review article by the Sandvig group: Biodistribution, pharmacokinetics and excretion studies of intravenously injected nanoparticles and extracellular vesicles: Possibilities and challenges

Biodistribution, metabolism and excretion studies are important in order to obtain market approval of new products for medical imaging or therapeutic use. Many groups are currently trying to develop such products for diagnosis and treatment of cancer and other diseases by associating contrast agents or therapeutic drugs with nanoparticles or extracellular vesicles.

In this review, senior scientists in the Sandvig group at the Department of Molecular Cell Biology, Institute for Cancer Research, discuss the possibilities and challenges with currently available methods with a focus on what is needed to bring such studies in small animals forward in an optimal way.

The review is published in the prestigious journal Advanced Drug Delivery Research (IF 15.5).
