Julia Elisabeth Simensen

  • Special Engineer; MSc in Molecular Biosciences

Julia Simensen studied Molecular Biosciences at the University of Oslo, Norway, from 2014-2020. She performed her Master’s thesis under the supervision of Dr. Viola Lobert (Rusten’s group), where she became interested in colorectal cancer research with focus on studying the disease in 3D cultures (i.e. organoids and spheroids). After MSc graduation in June 2020, she worked as a summer internship student supervised by Dr. Marie Rogne (Eskeland’s group) through the University of Oslo: Life Science program. Here she gained experience in liposarcoma research and molecular techniques used to study cytogenetics, such as fluorescence in situ hybridization (FISH). In September 2020, she was hired by Hovig’s group to participate as an engineer in projects related to Covid-19 and prostate cancer (see listing below). Since April 2021, Simensen is employed as a Special Engineer in the “Autophagy in cancer” project group led by Dr. Nikolai Engedal.
