This method was introduced in 1995. <title><![CDATA[Publication in Nature Genetics on testicular cancer susceptibility ]]></title>

<description><![CDATA[Researchers from Department of Cancer Prevention, Institute for Cancer Research and Centre for Cancer Biomedicine are involved in an international consortium on genetics of testicular germ cell tumours. The testicular cancer consortium, which is directed from National Cancer Institute and University of Pennsylvania, recently published two articles in Nature Genetics (Chung et al., May 2013) and Human Molecular Genetics (Schumacher et al., March 2013) respectively. Rolf Skotheim (photo) is the site responsible in Oslo, and says that across all types of cancer, testicular cancer is now the type for which known susceptibility genes explain the largest fraction the genetic risk.]]></description>

<title><![CDATA[Llorente and coworkers publish detailed lipidomic analyses of exosomes released from prostate cancer cells ]]></title>

<description><![CDATA[Project group leader Alicia Llorente, working in the group of Kirsten Sandvig, has recently published the lipid composition of a prostate cancer cell line and of the exosomes released from these cells. The work was performed in collaboration with two Finnish research groups and published in Biochim. Biophys. Acta (Mol. Cell Biol. Lip.; journal impact factor 5.3). The study, based on the quantification of 280 molecular lipid species, provides the most extensive lipid analysis of cells and their released exosomes to date.]]></description>

<description><![CDATA[On Friday April 26th nine research awards were distributed to scientists from Oslo University Hospital. The prizes were given out by Bj&oslash;rn Erikstein, managing director at the hosptital during a ceremony taking place at Rikshospitalet, Gaustad.
Awards went to six excellent research articles. For the first time, prizes also were given to three individual researchers. The "Excellent Researcher Award" was won by Harald Stenmark. The two "Early Career Awards" went to Guro Elisabeth Lind and Tom Hemming Karlsen.]]></description>

<description><![CDATA[A research team from  SFI-CAST Innovation center at the Oslo University  Hospital, led by Stefan Krauss, and including Jo Waaler, Daniel  Holsworth, Andrew Voronkov and Jens Preben Morth have developed a highly selective tankyrase inhibitor. Tankyrase is a druggable target in the otherwise hard-to-hit Wnt signaling pathway and has implications in colon cancer, pancreas adenocarcinoma, ovary cancer, lung cancer and other solid tumors. The tankyrase inhibitor may open a new therapeutic approach.]]></description>

<title><![CDATA[OUS researchers contribute to pioneering approach of crowdsourced research competition ]]></title>

Russnes) and&nbsp;Department of Oncology (Lars Ottestad and Hans Kristian Vollan), scientists from the Department of Genetics lead by Anne-Lise B&oslash;rresen contributed to a pioneering approach of crowdsourced research competition &mdash; the Sage Bionetworks&ndash;DREAM Breast Cancer Prognosis Challenge. In this competition computational biologist from the whole world made use of gene expression, gene copy number, and clinical data to develop prognostic models for breast cancer survival in an open challenge environment.In the April 17 issue of Science Translational Medicine, the Challenge&rsquo;s conception and execution as well as insights derived from its outcome are described.]]></description>

<title><![CDATA[Monica Bostad and co-workers publish important new findings on light-triggered targeting of stem-like cancer cells ]]></title>

<description><![CDATA[The manuscript first-authored by Monica Bostad from Kristian Berg's group at the Department of Radiation Biology - entitled "Photochemical internalization (PCI) of immunotoxins targeting CD133 is specific and highly potent at femtomolar levels in cells with cancer stem cell properties" was recently published in the highly recognized drug delivery periodical "Journal of Controlled Release" (5 year impact factor: 7.529, NIFU step level 2). As a proof-of-concept, Bostad et al., demonstrate for the first time that PCI can be used to deliver therapeutics that target cancer stem cells (CSCs).]]></description>
