Background

The survival of children with congenital malformations has dramatically increased during the last years. However, many patients survive with seriously impaired function in vital organ systems such as continence function and feeding. Depending on the congenital malformation, the child may suffer from fecal or urinary incontinence, feeding problems, respiratory tract problems and neurodevelopmental delay. Thus, focus has now changed from only increasing survival to consequences of the surgical treatment on long term results affecting quality of life.

The research activity is closely connected to the clinical activity and is focused on: Neonatal surgery, hepatobiliary surgery, and associated organ transplantations, oncological surgery and urology. We have close collaboration with other research groups at the hospital, Oslo university and internationally.
